Is Floor Painting Right for Me?

January 15, 2019

SmithPro Commercial Painting paints more than walls, trim, and ceilings. Many of our home and business painting clients approach us because they need commercial floor painting services as well, either as part of a larger job or as a standalone project. If you’re wondering whether this is a viable option for you, or you think it might be but you’re unsure of the process, you’ve come to the right place.

Why Consider Floor Painting?

Floor painting is simple when done by a painting contractor with as much experience as SmithPro Commercial Painting. It scales easily, and is also easy to customize with an enormous variety of colors, patterns, and even textures. It’s equally useful for a small space like a two-car garage or a larger space, like a warehouse that spans tens of thousands of square feet (we should know; we’ve done both).

Pros and Cons of Floor Painting

For all their versatility, painted floors come with some drawbacks. They can be slippery when wet, though this can be mitigated with textured additives. If they’re applied by someone less experienced who skimps on surface preparation, the paint may not adhere properly. And painted floors may wear quickly in high-traffic areas.

However, those drawbacks must be weighed against some significant positives. Painted floors are as easy to maintain as a comparable tile or hardwood floor, while resisting stains better than, and being more durable than, both. The paint seals and protects the concrete surface, extending its life. And floor painting is highly cost effective.

Our Process

If you’re beginning to think that floor painting might be a good fit for your project, you may be wondering how we go about it. We start with an initial meeting, during which we evaluate your project, your space, and the colors and materials that will be best suited to your needs. We’ll offer a competitive quote, and should you accept it, we’ll start setting things in motion. We start with extensive preparation of the concrete surface, while also taking steps to protect surrounding surfaces and items. We follow by applying the floor coating of your choice, a process that can take from a week to a month depending on the scope of the project. Once work is done, we return everything to its right place, review the project with you, and then we’re on our way.

Keeping Things Running Smoothly

There’s a lot we do to prepare for your project, including arriving with a fully-trained staff and an arsenal of equipment. Our union painters distinguish themselves by their knowledge, training, and professionalism, each of which shines through in the finished product.

However, we rely on you, too. After all, we’re working around your schedule to minimize disruptions and keep your business productive. So we’ll need you to be transparent about your processes, schedule, and needs, and your help identifying any areas or items that need extra-careful handling or protection.

For answers to any questions you may have, or to get a floor painting quote , we invite you to contact SmithPro Commercial Painting for projects located anywhere in eastern Missouri or western Illinois.
